Autumn´s restful atmosphere, the cool and dark nights and the mostly empty trails and campsites make it a perfect time of year to head on hikes in the woods and canoe trips across lakes. Hossa National Park in general is very peaceful due to its remote location and you can´t really talk about the area being packed or busy at any time, but Autumn is definitely off-season when it comes to amount of people visiting the place. Starry skies, possible northern lights and the fact that there´s hardly any bugs and mosquitos anymore, are nice bonuses this time of year. Past years our summer season for guided trips has very much focused on July and August, but this year we got the chance to arrange couple weeks in September and October too as we had people from the Netherlands, Australia, the United States and Thailand visiting Hossa on a tailor-made wilderness holiday experience.
As a small local business serving small groups and having a strong knowledge of the surrounding area and nature, it´s easy for us to be flexible when it comes to the level of the physical challenge of the daily activities and also adjust the program depending on the exact time of year; with the September group for example, we decided to dedicate one day for collecting mushrooms as the conditions had been perfect for a chanterelle surge and we actually found a really good batch, naturally used them as part of our meal the next day. With the October group on the other hand, we did shorter day distances with the walks to make sure they were suitable end enjoyable for every individual in the group. Fulfilling individual desires has become the norm the past years especially after the pandemic and we are always happy to design our trips to match personal interests and limits.
October also marked our 10 years in nature and activity travel and reflecting back on this time, it´s delightful to see how our long ago set values and driving principles have carried, how interest towards nature as a source of wellbeing has risen and how there´s a strong longing towards immersive and unique experiences. In a stressful world where we are constantly riddled with pointless talk and insane quantities of images and other attention consuming stimuli, where we are always engaged and consuming content, it has become extremely easy to dissociate and lose our own creativity, imagination and curiosity. Providing little gaps of silence, simplicity and solitude to our lives and exposing oneself to the conditions and staying in a simple cabin out in the wild for a few days, going in the sauna and doing physical activity in nature can offer a truly rejuvenating experience, on both mental and physical level and we have dozens of testimonials from our guests pointing this out. Nature sets whole new bars to contrast against on a very fundamental level and can help us remember our shared humanity and our connectedness with the whole of creation.
We feel privileged and thankful for these years and will continue on our mission to create unique travel experiences, go after what creates inner peace and help people discover Finland and its culture in an authentic and profound way. These amazing Autumn weeks inspired us to add some new guaranteed departure dates for 2024 and make a little compilation video of clips taken during these times, have a look and book your place on one of our wilderness holiday weeks:
