Fishing is definitely something that is worth discovering during your visit in the Hossa area. In Finland, Hossa has been marketed as a “fisherman´s paradise” and there´s a truth behind
that tagline. Remoteness, clear waters, pure environment and a wide range of fishing possibilities together make this area a considerable option wether you are a keen fisherman already or a beginner who desires to get to know the wonders of fishing. Fishing does not necessarily require previous experience and with modern equipment and a guide who takes care of the licenses and makes you familiar with the basics it becomes enjoyable, relaxing and fun. It is a skill that is quite easy to learn but hard to master.
During summertime you can try to jig perch from the crystal clear ponds or go trolling for trout and northern pike in dozens of different lakes surrounded by forests, fish in the rivers and streams with ultra light equipment fooling brown trouts and greylings or try passive fishing with different methods (fish traps, nets). Some lakes inside the recreation area are stocked with fish all year round but the natural fish stocks are outstanding also. Three different ponds have rainbow trout planted in them for recreational purposes and these ponds are very easy to reach, one of them is suitable for people with reduced mobility too.
Ice-fishing during winter time is a whole world of its own. Fishing through a hole in the ice with a simple small rod when the temperature is -20 degree celsius is an experience to remember. Biggest difference is the huge change of conditions, different equipment and catching the fish itself – in ice-fishing the catch is being pulled up by holding the line only with your hands. Trying to catch perch from the ponds and smaller lakes and fishing brown trout and rainbow trout from the maintained fishing spots are the types of fishing that are practiced the most during winter time. Ice-fishing becomes more and more enjoyable in Hossa as the spring progresses and the polar nights step aside!
Excellent fishing spots are fairly easy to reach both in summer and winter time but still they are nicely remote and surrounded by nature. Well maintained campsites can be found almost everywhere so making a campfire, warming up during the winter and having a picnic-lunch outdoors as part of your fishing experience is not a problem.
Fishing can be very exciting and fun because of the often surprising situations and the possible catch but the main things are getting in touch with nature and the time spent in the great outdoors.
Welcome to enjoy the wonders of fishing in one the most versatile fishing destinations in Finland!
