Midwinter of the Taiga forest is showing us the harsh side of itself; the temperature has been below -30 degrees Celsius for eight days in a row, truly a freezing christmas time! The last time we had weather like this was in January 2012; then we had a full week when the temperature varied between -30 and -41 celsius! It is cold but with the right clothing you can easily be active outdoors because it´s a dry cold. Ice-fishing is not that tempting with this kind of weather due you have to be mainly still while doing that. The fish are also very passive due to the darkness and coldness, I think you could say the same about many Finns!
Good thing is that at the time of sunset around 3.00 pm the sun colors the sky with beautiful colors, it almost looks like there´s a big fire behind the horizon. And of course at night time we have the beutiful starry sky. Yesterday we also discovered the tracks of two wolves – they had come from behind the Russian border following the tracks of reindeers. Here´s a couple of pictures taken at sub-zero temperatures! 🙂
